Alessandro obtained a Master’s degree in Management Engineering from the University of Naples Federico II in 2008 with a thesis on ‘optimization of machining processes on difficult-to-machine materials: turning of Inconel 718’. He was also awarded a PhD in Production Technology and Systems in 2013 by the Fraunhofer Joint Laboratory of Excellence on Advanced Production Technology at Department of Chemicals, Materials and Industrial Production Engineering, University of Naples Federico II, Italy, with a thesis on Multi-Sensor Process Monitoring in Turning of Nickel Superalloys.
During his time in Naples, Alessandro was also heavily involved in various research activities and was a member of the organising committee for a number of CIRP International Conferences on Intelligent Computation in Manufacturing Engineering (ICME 2008/2010/2012) held throughout Italy.
When he joined the SMART team soon after completing his PhD, Alessandro led a project researching Eco-Intelligent Factories, with particular interest in sensing technologies for real-time eco-aware decision making.
Alessandro is currently working as an Associate Professor in Intelligent Manufacturing Systems in China.
