Leila joined the Centre for SMART and returned to academia in 2012, initially working as a Research Assistant for 18 months before being appointed to University Teacher in Design in 2013. She undertook both teaching and research within SMART in the fields of Sustainable Product Design and Manufacturing, whilst studying for her doctorate in sustainable design futures and processes in her spare time.
Originally graduating with an MEng in Product Design and Manufacturing Engineering from Loughborough University, Leila went on to spend a year at the Umeå Institute of Design in Sweden where she studied Industrial Design and Design Thinking as a postgraduate. After this she spent a number of years working as a Design Engineer in various Product Development roles where she was able to take a wide range of products from concept to production, including Motorcycle Accessories in Mexico, LED Luminaires in the UK and Rural Ambulances in Zambia.
Leila completed her PhD at the Centre for SMART and is currently a Lecturer in the Faculty of Engineering, Dyson School of Design Engineering at Imperial College London.
